Scientia Potentia Est, an old latin aphorism, translates to “knowledge is power”. At Tutor Troops, we believe strongly in such empowerment. In fact, we’ve amassed an army of scholar-warriors whose mission it is to empower students throughout the D.C. metropolitan area through knowledge. The scholar-warriors are hand-picked from the best universities, and are chosen for not only their intelligence but also their charisma and ability to work patiently with students.
Today’s world is rapidly advancing forward in areas of technological advancement, yet, unfortunately, many children are growing up without a strong fundamental base in academics. While children and young adults have become increasingly adept on ipads, smartphones, facebook, and instagram, there has been a consequent drop in writing ability, mathematics skills, and scientific inquiry. At Tutor Troops, we don’t seek to work against the grain. Rather, we embrace the new times and encourage integration of technology into people’s daily lives. However, we aim to supplement this integration with a strong grasp of the basics. We use laptops, ipads, and digital devices to teach math – drilling basic arithmetic and more complex subjects such as trigonometry and calculus. We work with students on their writing skills, by providing online resources and by working patiently with them to develop clear and effective writing. We also work to improve reading comprehension, encouraging them to read both classic novels and modern works. It doesn’t stop there..we’ve also utilized the benefit of webcam technology to conduct online tutoring sessions, so now neither the student nor the tutor need to spend any time travelling. Knowledge is power, and we aim to bring that power to the masses!
